A Palestinian mob armed with Molotov cocktails burned down parts of Joseph’s Tomb overnight, less than a month after rioters attacked Jews praying at the site. Palestinian rioters set fire to Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus Friday morning, causing severe damage to the religious site. Joseph’s Tomb has been the target of repeated attacks, the most notable of which was during the Second Intifada in 2000, when the complex was almost completely destroyed.
Around 100 Palestinian youths gathered in the wee hours of the morning to throw Molotov cocktails at Joseph’s Tomb.
Some of the rioters broke inside, and set fire to the complex. Palestinian police dispersed the mob and local firefighters extinguished the flames before the IDF was able to arrive at the scene, but not before parts of the Tomb, including the women’s prayer section, burned down.

The burning and desecration of Joseph’s Tomb last night is a blatant violation and contradiction of the basic value of freedom of worship. The IDF will take all measures to bring the perpetrators of this despicable act to justice, restore the site to its previous condition and ensure that the freedom of worship returns to Joseph’s Tomb,” said IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner in a statement.
In September, a group of about 60 Palestinians attacked worshipers gathered at the Tomb for penitential prayers ahead of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. The Shin Bet revealed in August that it had foiled a plot by Islamic Jihad to kill Jews entering the site outside of official visiting times.
Joseph’s Tomb was originally supposed to remain under Israeli control as part of the Oslo Accords. However, guarding the holy site proved difficult, and after a Palestinian mob ransacked and burned the Tomb to the ground in 2000, Israel transferred control to the Palestinian Authority. Agreements between Israel and the PA stipulate that Jews must be allowed to visit and pray at the Tomb. Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) on Friday morning called to return Joseph's Tomb in Shechem (Nablus) to Israeli control, after about 150 Palestinian Arabs on Thursday night arrived at the compound and tried to burn it down. Reportedly Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces dispersed the rioters by firing in the air, and then Palestinian firefighters put out the fire. Initial reports indicated that damage was inflicted to the women's prayer area. "The arson of one of the holiest sites to the Jewish nation is an additional low, and the result of Palestinian incitement," said Ariel. Yisrael Beytenu chairman MK Avigdor Liberman also responded to the incident, saying, "the arson of Joseph's Tomb tonight proves that the management of the Palestinian Authority is no different from that of ISIS (Islamic State), and after the Palestinian youths took machetes and knives to kill Jews now they're also burning holy places and historical heritage sites, just like ISIS members do to heritage sites of the human civilization in Iraq and Syria."

Israel’s leaders are enraged by comments coming out of the US State Department blaming Israel for the Palestinian violence, and for alleging Israel uses excessive force to stop terrorism. Israeli minsters responded with rage on Wednesday to remarks by the US State Department that Israel may be using “excessive force” against Palestinian terrorists.
Speaking to IDF Radio Thursday morning, Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said he was not surprised by the remarks, as the State Department has traditionally been hostile to Israel.
“I don’t expect anything from the spokespeople at the State Department,” Erdan said. “The State Department has traditionally been hostile to the State of Israel.” However, “to be misled by lies which are presented to the State Department is very strange, amateurish, and even less than that,” he charged.
The usually composed and soft-spoken Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon went on a tirade when he responded to the allegations. “We’re using excessive force?!” he asked rhetorically while speaking to IDF Radio, “If someone raises a knife and he is killed, that consists of excessive force? What are we talking about here?” “I meet with military generals from the US and around the world who talk about our high standards. Missions came here [Israel] to learn how we operated during Operation Protective Edge. So they [the US] are talking here about excessive force?” he blasted.
On Wednesday, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked told Israel Radio that Washington “either has a complete misunderstanding of the situation or is being hypocritical.” The Israeli ministers were responding to remarks made by State Department spokesman John Kirby that “we’ve certainly seen some reports of what many would consider excessive use of force [by Israel]” against the seemingly endless string of Palestinian terror attacks.
“Obviously we don’t like to see that,” he added.
It’s Not About Affixing Blame? A day earlier, Kerry said that Israel’s construction in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria is the cause of the latest wave of Palestinian terror attacks. Pope advised to stay away from China
The former bishop of Hong Kong has said he would advise the Pope against visiting China for fear that a papal trip could end up being manipulated by Beijing.
Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun was speaking to the catholic charity, Aid to the Church in Need about persecution of Christians in China, which he said had recently "intensified".
He added that if asked about a visit by the Pope he would "strongly recommend him not to go, because the current circumstances are not the right ones."
"The only outcome of such a visit," the 82-year-old said "will be good people suffering and the Pope's good will being misused."
Pope Francis indicated he might visit China during his visit to South Korea in August.

Polish cleric, 15 hostages, released
The Cameroonian army says it has freed Polish Catholic priest Rev. Mateusz Dziedzic from his kidnappers. The priest's captors say they voluntarily released Dziedzic and 15 other hostages as a goodwill gesture in hopes of political negotiations.
Either way, the 6-week hostage ordeal is over and the former hostages are reported to be in good health. Dziedzic was abducted Nov. 12 by members of the Democratic Front of the Central African Republic. The other 15 were abducted in mid-October. The rebels had intended to use the captives as leverage to win the release of their leader, who had been arrested in Cameroon in 2013.

Asia Bibi lawyers make one last plea
Asia Bibi, the Christian woman on death row in Pakistan for blasphemy, has appealed to the only court in the country that can now save her.
Bibi's lawyer, Saiful Malook, filed the appeal to Pakistan's Supreme Court on 24 November asking that it reconsiders deficiencies in her case.
After a previous appearance at the appeals court in Lahore her legal team failed to overturn her conviction, despite a legal loophole in the trial. In his first interview after the Lahore hearing, Bibi's counsel, Naeem Shakir, told World Watch Monitor that justice for the case 'is increasingly in the hands of the extremists'.
The 50-year-old mother of five was sentenced to hang after being convicted four years ago of insulting the Prophet Mohammed during an argument with a Muslim woman over a bowl of water.
'We expect an early hearing of the appeal and hope the proceedings will be over in one year,' said Malook.
