Young Libyans attack Salafi militants base
The people, tired of the violence and armed gangs, burned the headquarters of Ansar al-Sharia, the group suspected of killing U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. The population refuses to accept the militia oppression or imposition of a fundamentalist Islam.

(AsiaNews) - Hundreds of young demonstrators attacked the headquarters of Ansar
al-Shariah, one of the most extremist Islamic groups, hunting militants and
setting fire to the building. The
attack took place late last night, after a day of protests attended by tens of
thousands of people to "save Benghazi." The
rally was organized to criticize violence in the city, which led to the murder
of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens, three members of his staff, along with 10
Libyan guards in the U.S. consulate. In
fact Ansar al-Shariah is suspected of having attacked the U.S. consulate, on
September 11, taking advantage of the demonstrations against the anti-Islam
film, produced in the United States.The headquarters of Ansar al-Shariah was surrounded by the crowd shouting "No to armed militias!" Militiamen sought first to fire shots in the air, but then were forced to flee.
A similar attack against another militia base in the city, the Sahaty brigade, led to three deaths. Anti-militia demonstrators and police clashed for two hours, until the armed group fled. In another incident one person was killed.
Anti-militia demonstrations are something new in the Libyan panorama. People are frustrated by the lack of security, following the fall of Gaddafi. Many Islamic groups, which helped to put an end to the Colonel's dictatorship, have refused to disarm or accept to enter in law enforcement. They often act like bands of outlaws, attacking groups and people who do not obey their vision of a fundamentalist Islam.

Moscow Patriarchate: anti-Islam film and vandalism against the Church, links in the same chain

Archpriest Chaplin condemns the film that has offended the Muslim world and warns that freedom of expression must not go beyond the moral limits.
Moscow (AsiaNews) - The anti-Islam film that has sparked violent protests in more than 20 countries worldwide can be compared to the attacks on Christian symbols during the last month in Russia. This according to the Russian Orthodox Patriarchate which affirms that 'freedom of expression must comply with clear moral limits. The speaker was the head of the Synodal Department for Relations between state and society, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, in a recent interview with the Interfax news agency. "Personally - denounced Chaplin - I think that the continuing actions in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the appearance of a film that insults the founder of Islam, the attacks on U.S. embassies and swastikas on synagogues are links in the same chain." The cleric defines those who have desecrated symbols, extremely important for specific social groups, long considered untouchable, vandalized buildings, such as embassies and places of worship as "crazy" people.
He said these crimes are far worse than normal because "when you desecrate a symbol considered important to a community, you try to belittle and subjugate the whole of that community." "It is no coincidence - he added - that these actions have then led to large-scale conflicts in history." The priest also urged the international community to take the necessary measures to prevent such action, calling for "serious and inevitable punishment" for such crimes and noted that "freedom of expression must have clear moral limits, because it is not absolute and, according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the most elementary logic, should not be taken beyond morality, public order and civil concord".
Since, August 17, when Moscow's Khamovniceski court sentenced the three girls from punk band Pussy Riot to two years in prison (guilty of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred" for a anti-Putin performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior) incidents of attacks on religious symbols have increased in Russia: crosses hacked to pieces, anticlerical graffiti and acts of vandalism against churches and icons.

Mosca (AsiaNews) - Il film anti-islam che ha scatenato violente proteste in oltre 20 Paesi del mondosi può paragonabile agli attacchi contro simboli cristiani avvenuti nell'ultimo mese in Russia: è quanto afferma il Patriarcato russo-ortodosso ricordando che la libertà d'espressione deve rispettare chiari limiti morali. A parlare è stato il capo del Dipartimento sinodale per i rapporti tra Stato e società, l'arciprete Vsevolod Chaplin, in una recente intervista con l'agenzia Interfax. "Personalmente - ha denunciato Chaplin - penso che le continue azioni nella cattedrale di Cristo Salvatore, la comparsa di un film che insulta il fondatore dell'islam, gli attacchi alle ambasciate americane e le svastiche sulle sinagoghe siano anelli della stessa catena". Il religioso ha definito "pazzi" le persone che hanno dissacrato simboli, estremamente importanti per specifici gruppi sociali, e che hanno vandalizzato edifici considerati da sempre intoccabili, come le sedi diplomatiche e i luoghi di culto.
A suo dire, questi crimini sono molto più gravi di quelli ordinari perché "quando si dissacra un simbolo ritenuto importante per una comunità, si prova a sminuire e soggiogare quell'intera comunità". "Non è una coincidenza - ha aggiunto - che tali azioni abbiano portato poi a conflitti su larga scala nella storia". L'arciprete ha poi invitato la comunità internazionale a prendere le misure necessarie per evitare che vengano compiute tali azioni, ha invocato "pene serie e inevitabili" per tali crimini e ricordato che "la libertà di espressione deve avere chiari limiti morali, perché non è assoluta e, secondo la Dichiarazione universale dei diritti umani e la logica più elementare, non deve essere portata oltre la morale, l'ordine pubblico e l'accordo civile".
Da quando, il 17 agosto, il tribunale Khamovniceski di Mosca ha condannato a due anni di detenzione le tre ragazze del gruppo punk Pussy Riot (colpevoli di "teppismo motivato da odio religioso" per una performance anti-Putin nella cattedrale di Cristo Salvatore), sono aumentati in Russia episodi di attacchi a simboli religiosi: croci divelte, scritte anticlericali sulle mura delle chiese e atti di vandalismo contro icone.

Bibbie bruciate e cristiani aggrediti in India, per convertirli all’induismo

Due nuovi incidenti avvenuti in Karnataka. Estremisti indù hanno costretto le vittime – tutti pentecostali – a partecipare a un rito di “purificazione” in templi indù, per abiurare al cristianesimo. Global Council of Indian Christians (Gcic): “Attacchi orchestrati dal partito indù, per racimolare voti”.
Mumbai (AsiaNews) - Due nuovi incidenti anticristiani, a un giorno di distanza l'uno dall'altro, sconvolgono il Karnataka. In entrambi i casi, le vittime sono comunità pentecostali, aggredite nell'intimità delle loro case e minacciate da ultranazionalisti indù, nel tentativo di costringerli ad abiurare al cristianesimo. Per Sajan K George, presidente del Global Council of Indian Christians (Gcic), è ormai evidente che simili incidenti "sono orchestrati", perché "in Karnataka come in altri Stati guidati dal Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp, partito ultranazionalista indù, ndr) religione e politica vanno a braccetto, e sono usate per racimolare più voti possibili". Il Bjp è alla guida del Karnataka dal 2007.
L'ultimo caso è avvenuto ieri a Gudadahalli Hearaghatta (nord di Bangalore). Due attivisti della Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (Rss, gruppo ultranazionalista indù) si sono infiltrati durante un servizio di preghiera della Chiesa pentecostale guidata dal rev. Muniraju. Poco dopo l'inizio del raduno, altri otto membri della Rss hanno fatto irruzione sul posto. Dopo aver bruciato e distrutto tutte le Bibbie e altri libri religiosi presenti nella chiesa, gli aggressori hanno picchiato e schiaffeggiato il pastore. Poi, per intimidire la comunità, hanno trascinato l'uomo e sua moglie per circa un chilometro, fino al vicino tempio indù. Lì, gli attivisti hanno costretto la coppia a partecipare la pooja (rituale indù). Prima di lasciarli andare, gli aggressori hanno intimato loro di interrompere ogni servizio di preghiera.
Due giorni prima, il 21 settembre scorso, la Chiesa pentecostale Bethel Prathanalaya (vicino a Bhadravathi, distretto di Shimoga) ha subito un'aggressione simile. La comunità conta 25 fedeli ed è guidata dal rev. Kumar Hanumanthappa. Quel giorno, i cristiani erano ospiti di cinque famiglie di Voddarahalli Thanda, un villaggio vicino. Circa 20 attivisti della Rss e del Bajrang Dal hanno interrotto la preghiera, minacciando i presenti di "terribili conseguenze" se avessero continuato a praticare il cristianesimo. Dopo picchiato alcuni di loro e bruciato le Bibbe, gli indù hanno condotto l'intera comunità al tempio più vicino, costringendoli a partecipare a una cerimonia di "purificazione" dalla loro religione. Una volta tornati a casa, alcuni cristiani hanno sporto denuncia alla polizia di Holehonnur. Al momento, non risultano arresti in merito al caso.
"L'art. 14 della nostra Costituzione - ribadisce Sajan George - sancisce l'uguaglianza dinanzi alla legge per tutte le persone. Eppure, ancora una volta assistiamo ad aggressioni contro i cristiani e i loro luoghi di culto, in cui i colpevoli girano a piede libero, mentre vittime innocenti vengono arrestate".

Bible are burnt, Christians attacked to convert them forcibly to Hinduism

Two more incidents are recorded in Karnataka. Hindu extremists submit Pentecostal Christians to a 'purification' ceremony at a Hindu temple in order to force them to abjure their Christian faith. For the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), "these attacks are work of the Hindu party to win votes."
Mumbai (AsiaNews) - Two new anti-Christian incidents were recorded, at a one day interval, in the state of Karnataka. In both cases, Pentecostal Christians were the victims, attacked in the privacy of their homes, when ultranationalist Hindus tried to force them to forswear their Christian faith.
For Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), it is increasingly clear that the incidents "are orchestrated" because "in Karnataka and in other states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), religion and politics go hand in hand and are used to gain as many votes as possible." The ultranationalist Hindu party has been in power in the state since 2007.
The latest case was recorded yesterday in Gudadahalli Hearaghatta (north of Bangalore). Two Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS ) activists infiltrated a prayer meeting held at the Pentecostal Church led by Rev Muniraju. After the start of the service, an additional eight RSS members burst into the place.
In the church, they burnt or tore up all the Bibles and religious documents found. They also slapped and beat up the clergyman.
To intimidate the community, they dragged him and his five to a Hindu temple, about a kilometre away, where they forced the couple to take part in a pooja, a Hindu rite. Before they let them go, the attacked warned them against holding more prayer services.
Two days earlier, on Friday, the Bethel Prathanalaya Pentecostal Church, near Bhadravathi, Shimoga District, was attacked in the same fashion.
The community of 25 is led by Rev Kumar Hanumanthappa. On that day, the members had travelled to the neighbouring village Voddarahalli Thanda, guests of five local families.
About 20 RSS and Bajrang Dal activists stormed the prayer services, telling those present they would suffer "terrible consequences" if they continued to practice Christianity.
After beating some of those present and burning some of the Bibles, the Hindus forced the entire community to walk to the nearest Hindu temple to take part in their religion's 'purification' ceremony.
Once they were able to go home, some of the Christians stopped at the Holehonnur police station to file a formal complaint. However, no one has yet to be arrested in connection with the case.
"Article 14 of the Indian constitution provides for equality before law for all people," Sajan George said. "And yet in the case of attacks on Christians and Christian places of worship, the perpetrators go scot free, while the innocent victims are arrested".
